We’ve got more Sponsorship!

Posted: under Biking in the bush.

Apologies for my lack of recent posts, but I’ve just started a new contract with a lot of long hours and travel abroad – in fact this is being typed from Massachusetts at present, although I’m a bit gutted as should have been at an Enduro Africa practice weekend in deepest muddiest Wales thrashing a dirtbike around with my fellow 2010 Enduro’ers and the previous years guys who survived the ordeal!

Anyway enough of that – I’m very pleased to announce that Wardour Partners have just made a very generous donation to my Enduro Africa campaign – so a massive thank you to them and Rob Henderson..  They now have the prestigious honour of sitting in the Sponsors Hall of Fame, alongside all of you other brilliant individuals and companies who decided to make a difference to some very disadvantaged children…

I promise to get some more updates on soon including an up to date total as I’ve had a few other donations recently, so long as BA stop striking and Iceland lets me fly home this week….

Cheers

Ian

A big “Thank You” to all my sponsors to date…

Posted: under Biking in the bush.

Just a quick message to every single person and company that has donated money, time, equipment and support to me since starting my Biking in the Bush campaign….

I have been overwhelmed by the level of support from people, and at this rate I am very tempted to up my target to above the £5,000 minimum required. I’m sat here wondering whether £6,000 would be achievable??

Anyway, the names are still going up on the illustrious Sponsors Hall of Fame, and I’m not going to duplicate that here, but I would like to just say a massive thank you to the companies that have donated to me as well.

There are more details about the businesses on the Sponsors Hall of Fame page, plus links to websites etc…

A taster for the adventure (and a few broken bones!!)

Posted: under Biking in the bush.

A fellow Enduro rider has highlighted a very cool article on the World Wide Mag site, which gives a little bit of an insight into a few days in the saddle for an Enduro Africa’er, but also highlights the pretty spectacular fact that Global Enduro has raised over £5 million in seven years for various charities….

Well worth the read, just click on this “An African Adventure”

Biking in the Bush Bash!

Posted: under Biking in the bush, Fundraising, Photos.

Well the hangover has abated, we’ve caught up on sleep, there’s still a mountain of leftover food to eat, and the embarrassing photos are finding their way on to the internet!

All that is the boring stuff though, the great news is that it raised a hefty £682.26!!! I cannot thank enough each and every single person who turned up and then dug deep to donate loads to the ticket price and the spare change at the bar and DJ request buckets!

———————————-

However, the real highlight of the night was the Chinese auction. We had some great prizes, namely;

- 6 premier tickets (worth £120) to use at the fantastic Wolverhampton Races, kindly donated by Wolverhampton Racecourse and Mr Andy Cooper!

- 2 tickets for the cracking experience Severn Valley Railway, kindly donated by Nigel and Leanne from the Firs at Codsall.

- Wine and chocolates kindly donated by Mike and Lorraine Poxon, who also donated a fancy dress prize! (Mike raised a fantastic £7,000 for Enduro Africa 2009!)

- 4 Canvas prints converted from photos taken of Lions, Elephants and a baby Zebra in Botswana 2008, donated by Ian Danbury photography.

The other highlight (for fundraising, but lowlight for me), was the live auction of Ian doing a day on the bike in South Africa in drag / costume of choice by the winning bidder!

I stepped back as Mr Ben Gamble of Cuttlestones Auctioneers and Valuers presided over a (much heckled and frantic!) bidding, which was finally won by a cartel of vindictive people wanting to make me suffer! So for a brilliant £100 winning bid, Lisa and L, Trudie and Simon, Si and Kim, Amy and Al, Nikki and Andy are now deliberating on how much humiliation they can cause me. Chaps if you’ve had any ideas already stick some comments on this post please!

———————————-

The efforts of the fancy dressers was brilliant too, as the pictures page shows.

The kids look fantastic, and too be honest I’d like to have given prizes to loads more people. To name a few of the best though, Kevin Steadman was by far the funniest full blown animal as was Alfie Cooper – still laughing at your brilliant efforts now, especially using grand dad’s sock for a trunk!

Lisa zip tying fruit to her head, Andy wearing a latex outfit all night, Trudie finding a crocodile top that fitted a 7 month pregnant bulge, Penny (for putting up with Ben’s bare legs), Nicky for her hours of threading beads onto a grass skirt, Si for making a man size cardboard cut out of Africa and Nikki wearing an old (used!) bath mat round her head were all fantastic too.

All the safari rangers, zebras, leopards and hunters looked awesome, as did all the Enduro Africa and Motocross riders especially those wearing full body armour underneath! However the prizes went to:

  • 3rd – Natalie.  nat
  • 2nd – (Joint as they looked like tribesmen brothers who had travelled hundreds of miles to make this party) – Andy and Mark.

  • 1st – Barren Samedi (Ryan), not just for the make up that still hasn’t washed off, but the fact that he was wearing a pair of his Mum’s tights….

So firstly a massive thank you again to everyone who turned up, travelled and made a BIG difference to filling the room as well as donating so generously to my fundraising campaign.

Finally, a huge thank you to Carole, Trudie, Lisa (who outsourced her desserts!), Kevin, Lynn, Lucy and Nigel and Leanne for all their help with food preparation, lending projectors, setting the room up and for buying and fetching things to help me. Biggest thank you though is to Nicky for all of her amazing efforts with food, rooms, prizes, auction help, looking great and chivvying me up when it looked like we might not even be able to run the event! (Although mostly for falling on her arse and walking into the fence at the end of the night!!!)

Cheers everyone, we couldn’t have done it without you, and you chaps making over 680 smackers should feel very proud indeed!!!

Ian :-)

Ps – I’ve just done all the sums and updated the thermometer – I’ve now hit £3,382!!! Thanks so so much…

Nearly halfway!!!

Posted: under Fundraising.

I really can’t believe it, but after receiving some really generous donations in the last few weeks, I’ve just calculated that my total raised to date is a whopping:

£ 2,332.21

I cannot thank all you brilliant and kind donors enough, but hopefully I’ll get my chance to buy you a pint or glass of vino at the fancy dress party in a few weeks….

You have also now been immortalised on the Sponsors hall of fame (see sponsors page), which hopefully might spur a few other people to follow your lead!

Thanks, thanks and thanks again :-)

Welcome to my Biking in the Bush adventure…

Posted: under Biking in the bush.

Welcome to my Enduro Africa website – I’ve nicknamed it Biking in the Bush!

Here you can learn about my adventure to raise as much money as possible for some amazing charities that are making a fundamental difference to people’s live in South Africa.

In October 2010 I will be joining a team of one hundred or more people trying not to fall off motorbikes too often whilst navigating 2,000km of off road terrain along South Africa’s awesome Wild Coast.

By each of the riders raising a minimum sum of money, the event organiser, Enduro Africa promises to donate at least £150,000 to UNICEF, Sentebale, Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and Touch Africa.

The unique aspects of this experience will no doubt change my life for the better*, and I am certain it will improve the quality of life for many others; so please take some time to read on about this adventure, the charities and lives that we’re supporting, and join me in having some fun whilst raising some serious money to make a difference…

Cheers – Ian

* So long as I don’t break a leg, ride off the side of a mountain or get eaten by a lion…
